Lift Off! - 40 Days of Sacrifice

We are about to engage in a very important prayer campaign for this Lift Off! Not only will it last the next 40 days (in association with Lent), but we will focus on praying in support of the refugee crisis in the world--especially in Syria. As we spend time to pray each day, let us also consider taking an active role in this important topic. Over the course of these 40 days, we will give participants an opportunity to give sacrificial and directly work relief in needed areas to aid refugees. (See more here)

What is a refugee?
The U.S. government defines “refugee” as any person who is outside any country of such person's nationality or, in the case of a person having no nationality, is outside any country in which such person last habitually resided, and who is unable or unwilling to return to, and is unable or unwilling to avail himself or herself of the protection of, that country because of persecution or a well-founded fear of persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion. (tgc.org)

There are currently over 19.5 million refugees worldwide--about half are children. They are displaced because of wars, conflicts, and persecutions and are looking for a new home, refuge, and safety--often far away from their place of origin. Groups of people will travel great distances, endure extreme hardships, and even lose loved ones along the way.

Our hope is that through this time of prayer, we will not only realize the difficulty that these groups of people experience, but also the great opportunity for the Gospel to be reached to them. As they seek not only a new life in a new location, may we plead with the God of grace, mercy, and justice to bring new salvation to them.

Lastly, we challenge us to not only pray, learn, and read about these difficult situations, but to act and give sacrificially. Over the course of these 40 days, may we think of ways to come along side the sacrifice of millions of families who seek a better life. May we also sacrifice in some way through this time of humility (our suggestion is at least $1/day over 40 days). Hopefully, this small act of sacrifice will help us realize the great sacrifice of Jesus Christ for His people who have a stable home, but more so for those still seeking a place called home.

More information, Scripture, and specific requests will be presented everyday throughout this prayer campaign. Please join us for 40 days, with 40 requests, for 10 minutes a day, and give sacrificially to this great cause. The countdown begins tomorrow (March 1)!
