Lift Off! 40 Days of Sacrifice - Day 40
Day 40: Strangers
Genesis 1:27-28
God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them; and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth."
The U.S. government defines “refugee” as any person who is outside any country of such person's nationality or, in the case of a person having no nationality, is outside any country in which such person last habitually resided, and who is unable or unwilling to return to, and is unable or unwilling to avail himself or herself of the protection of, that country because of persecution or a well-founded fear of persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion. It's easy to pray for those that are close to us--our friends, family, even those in our churches and fellowship groups. But the majority of this prayer event focuses on people we may not even know or meet. Strangers. What does God say about them? How should we still pray in regards to those who are in need and we have never met?
Spend a moment meditating on the verse and the information given above. Pray in response of God's intended creation and the general refugee definition. How might God's intention through creation still be His plan despite people being displaced and being forced away from their homes? How would you pray for refugees in general as we start this pray plan? Lastly, watch the video below and pray for your own heart towards "strangers".
Matthew 25:35-36
For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.'
