Lift Off! Road to Renewal - Day 08
Day 08: SORROW
SCRIPTURE
Isaiah 53:3
He was despised and rejected by mankind,
a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.
Like one from whom people hide their faces
he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.
PRAYER
God of all consolation, in your unending love and mercy for us, you turn the darkness of death into the dawn of new life. Show compassion to your people in sorrow. Be our refuge and our strength to lift us from the darkness of this grief to peace and joy in your presence. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen
NEXT STEPS
Dealing with sorrow is never easy, the same goes for watching someone go through a tough time. It hits us when we least expect it. And the truth is, there is no timeline or right formula that works to make us (or others) joyful again. What can we do as Christians during someone's time of need? The Bible says in Mark 12:14-15, "Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position..."
Take some time today and think about what you need during times of sorrow. After, spend some time jotting down notes and ideas about what you can do during someone's time of need. At the end of this, pray and ask God if there is someone that you need to be reaching out to. Be willing to sacrifice your time, God might be calling you to what may seem like the smallest act but He can use all things.
