Flight Report 9.06.2012
New Location for Passage.
We're starting the new church year in the Life Center. Passage (College Sunday School), will be in Life Center, rooms 302-303, at 8:45am. (Young Adults will be in room 305-306. Adult SS on 2nd floor.)
3-Session Schedule
As we enter into this new schedule, there will be an opportunity to do things differently: "Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others." There's plenty of room for people to jockey for possession: parking spaces, sanctuary seating, meeting room, right of way, etc. People can be pretty aggressive looking out for their interests. Yes, even in church. Let's go forward into this new year in an attitude which was also in Christ Jesus.

Election Education and Discussion.
There are two things, as the cliche goes, you're not to discuss at a dinner party: politics and religion. Haha! We're attempting both—at church!
Open ONLY to collegians and young adults (age 35 and younger) a series of gatherings to inform and discuss the issues of the 2012 elections will be held. As citizens, we have a civic duty in the election process. As Christians, we are to be engaged in the world as Christ's ambassadors. How are we to vote as Christians given the complex and significant issues before us in the upcoming elections? The gatherings aim to be civil, informative and thought provoking, and they're intended to help you cast an informed vote on Election Day (Tuesday, Nov 4). Each gathering will focus on 2-3 issues relevant to the elections. Stay tuned for issues and topics of discussion. [Note: Discussions will be moderated to insure a harmonious atmosphere and insure the church is not in any violation of IRS regulations. Guidelines will be explained at each meeting.]
Time & Dates: 1-2:30pm on Sept 16, 30, Oct 14, 28, Nov 4 and Nov 11.

A Great Time of Prayer.
Yesterday's ESPM was awesome good. There was a large turnout comprised of various age groups. Melinda Cheng and Christiana Wong led the church body in prayers of confession, repentance, worship, and prayers for the church. God was present and the Holy Spirit was moving amongst us. There was a great sense that we were praying in one spirit and one voice.
Coming to ESPM every week may be difficult but I encourage you to be intentional, and schedule specific days to come. Perhaps make it every other week, or three of four weeks in the month. I believe God blesses those who carve out this time for prayer. It's a sacrifice God acknowledges. There may be an initial fear about being in prayer meeting, but really, all those fears fade after experiencing prayer and praying regularly with familiar faces. God replaces those fears with comfort and peace. Prayer gets us on board with God's plans. ~John
Beginning Sept 12, ESPM will be in the Life Center (rooms TBD); 7:30pm. (No ESPM or prayer meetings on Sept 19 due to a conference held at FCBC)
