Flight Report, 8.28.12

Come to Pray
"Foundations." That was Pastor Chris' second message at College/Young Adult camp. Remember how we were challenged to not treat prayer as a lucky charm or a rabbit's foot, where we only pray or gather for prayer when the situation calls for it (Before a big exam, at camp as a counselor, in the mission field, etc.) Let's not treat prayer—or God!—as a superstitious practice.
Join other collegians, young adults and the family of God in prayer. Develop your prayer and grow in your faith. Prayer Gathering on Wednesdays at FCBC; 7:30pm, H/Truth, 220-222
Some of you have not started school yet and you've got time. Schedule Disneyland or group dinner or movie night around Wednesday's pray gathering. Push the excuses aside.

Women's Summer Bible Study.

Church and the College Years
Here's a great article reminding us what church is, and how to speak to others who are unaware of what it is. Check it out: Church and the College Years

Save the Date: Dec 27-30, Flight Winter Retreat!
You want to go to there. You want to make it great. You want to help. You want to speak to Chris Wong.

Or, Go to InterVarsity's Urbana Conference.
Dec 26-Jan 1, in St. Louis, MO. InterVarsity Fellowship hosts this conference for college students once every three years. Discover truths with others, and be challenged about being a missional influence on your campus and in our world. Inquire with John Chow or Spencer Sun. Check out conference details here: Urbana12

Election Education and Discussion.
There are two things, as the cliche goes, you're not to discuss at a dinner party: politics and religion. Haha! We're attempting both—at church!
Open ONLY to collegians and young adults (age 35 and younger) a series of gatherings to inform and discuss the issues of the 2012 elections will be held. As citizens, we have a civic duty in the election process. As Christians, we are to be engaged in the world as Christ's ambassadors. How are we to vote as Christians given the complex and significant issues before us in the upcoming elections? The gatherings aim to be civil, informative and thought provoking, and they're intended to help you cast an informed vote on Election Day (Tuesday, Nov 4). Each gathering will focus on 2-3 issues relevant to the elections. Stay tuned for issues and topics of discussion. [Note: Discussions will be moderated to insure a harmonious atmosphere and insure the church is not in any violation of IRS regulations. Guidelines will be explained at each meeting.]
     Time & Dates: 1-2:30pm on Sept 16, 30, Oct 14, 28, Nov 4 and Nov 11.
