#inflightreading2015: 6 Month Plan

Can you believe we're already halfway through 2015? As some of you know, we started a Bible reading plan back in January and I hope you've been keeping up! If you haven't been able to, or you didn't join us earlier this year, don't fret, there's another opportunity to read together! On July 15, you can take part in a NEW reading plan that will cover the New Testament and the Books of Poetry.

You won't get the full reward from Flight Ministry at the end of the year, but we'll have something for you. And if you want to purchase the Bible on your mobile device to read while offline, Flight Ministry will pay for $5 of the purchase (usually sell for $10). Here's a link to join the reading plan group and add the document that says "Read NASB95 in six months", you should then see this plan on the app of your mobile device. Just search "Faithlife" at your appropriate app store.

Happy Reading!

Lent (#inflightreading2015)

Today marks a special day in remembering Christ's sacrifice and resurrection for us at the cross. We are forty days away from celebrating our Savior's redeeming work for His people and we generally commemorate this day by 'fasting' (sacrificing a certain aspect of our lives in remembrance). This year, however, we encourage you to participate by spending time in reflection on this upcoming season of sacrifice.

What is Lent?

For some Christians, Lent has always been a part of their spiritual life, but for others it is unfamiliar. Lent is a season leading up to Easter, a time when Christians have historically prepared their hearts for Easter with reflection, repentance, and prayer. Lent begins with Ash Wednesday and proceeds for forty days, excluding Sundays, and culminating with Good Friday and Holy Saturday. Since Sundays are weekly celebrations of the resurrection of Jesus, the six Sundays in Lent are not counted as part of the forty-day season, which focuses on introspection, self examination, and repentance. Many Christians choose to celebrate a fast throughout the season of Lent, but the focus is not on depriving themselves of something as much as it is on devoting themselves to God and his purposes in the world.*

Join us as we read together this devotional plan in commemoration of the Easter season. Read along in addition to the Bible reading plan you have (#inflightreading2015) and challenge yourself to grow closer to Christ over the next few weeks. And we hope to celebrate together at Good Friday Service (April 3) and Resurrection Sunday (April 5) this season!

Happy New Year!
Last Wednesday at our special New Year's Lift Off! prayer meeting, I encouraged everyone to make a commitment to read the Bible daily and to follow a plan. I've created a group just for this at this link so that we can see each others' progress and encourage one another! Join us here and we'll keep track and (hopefully) on pace together this year.

You can also use this website through an app on your smartphone (search: Faithlife). This app not only has purchase-able Bibles and books, but it allows you to access these reading materials even while being offline. So no matter where you go, you always have access to this reading plan AND any other devotionals/books for your spiritual growth! The app has free books monthly, so feel free to use it for multiple reasons.

Lastly, if you join this group for the year to read through the Bible, Flight ministry will pay for 1 version of the Bible so that you can more easily accomplish the commitment to read the Bible in a year (about $10). Just let me know if you would like to do that and I'll get you reimbursed! And of course, if you finish the Bible plan in 1 year, Flight has a special reward for you at the end of the year! Let's read together and see what God will teach us!!
