2019 Thailand Missions - I am Game Master, Darren is Life Skills Master, God is Kind Master
Throughout this first week, we’ve spent a good amount of time exploring the city of Chiang Mai. Slowly I’ve noticed little things here and there. I’ve learned that you can purchase gasoline from a bottle which I thought was juice until I read the sign, that there is a certain way to hold your utensils when having a meal (spoon in right hand, fork in left hand), and that you must look both ways before crossing the street first to the right and then to the left.
Read the sign before you put these babies to your mouth. |
Thursday happenings:
- We woke up early to paint at the Centre instead of the afternoon when students come, due to the strong fumes. The then blank canvas of the classroom now has a beautiful gradient skyline *pictures coming soon!* Kudos to life skills master Darren.
- We pre-packed goodie bags and made dessert (lychee, apple, pineapple, and almond jello) for the students for Worship Night on Friday, while Mel and Jonny had some time to practice as they were going to lead worship.
- We went to One Nimman, one of the newer shopping malls, for lunch before our devotions together as a team, reminding us about the bigger picture of short term missionary work - we don't need to worry about whether or not we make a difference because God causes the growth in the short and long-run!
- And we ended the day off with walking over to the night market down the street with some staff/students for dinner and fellowship with one another.

Even though we have been steadily diving deep into what it looks like to be servants of Jesus for the Thai people, I feel like I am the one being served by them. The locals we encounter and the small interactions I’ve been blessed to have with the few students we have, often leave me smiling (and slightly embarrassed by my poor attempt to trying to use the few Thai phrases we’ve learned before coming here). God has really been showing me a whole different side of himself during this period of adapting to my new surroundings.
Prayer requests:
- Please pray for opportunities to do life with the staff and students at the Centre.
- Please pray for guidance and courage especially for intentional conversations.
- And please pray for the continual protection of overall health. Whitney’s eczema seems to be a little more irritable since we got here and many of us on the team have already been bit by mosquitos, some more than others but the itching is manageable. Praise the Lord!
- Also, strength and joy for introverts and the extroverted introverts *hint hint me and Alisa and Whitney and Jonny and Darren and Melody*
