Lift Off! 40 Days of Sacrifice - Day 32
Day 32: Opportunity
Numbers 15:15-16
As for the assembly, there shall be one statute for you and for the alien who sojourns with you, a perpetual statute throughout your generations; as you are, so shall the alien be before the Lord. There is to be one law and one ordinance for you and for the alien who sojourns with you.
In his sovereignty God might move one of his image-bearers halfway around the world so he or she can hear the hope of the gospel. He invites his church to join in that mission. Regrettably, according to LifeWay Research, less than half of U.S. Protestant churches are engaged in reaching and serving refugees or other immigrants, so the opportunity is much greater than is being realized. World Relief president Stephan Bauman has challenged every local church to welcome at least one refugee family, which I think would have remarkable gospel impact. (tgc.org)
Even from establishing God's law in the book of Numbers, God's statute remained the same for His people, Israel and for strangers ("alien") who came across God's people. This intention to provide and care under the same commands began long ago and remain constant today. God's sovereignty to provide for all He has created and to bring opportunity for people to know Him and be saved by Him. Pray that through any means--but especially the church, we would be a place of refuge for those seeking a home and to ultimately bring an opportunity to present the Gospel.
