Thailand Team Teaches The Thai
Today was our first day of teaching at Jianhua and man has it been a long day. Our team is split up into two teaching groups. Team A (Alisa, Doris & Thomas) and Team B (Ashley, Caleb, Kristy & Rochelle). Team B had the opportunity to teach two classes during the day and one class at night while Team A had one class in the morning and one at night. My team taught the day students on how to introduce themselves as well as pronunciations and tongue twisters (hence the title of the post). It went pretty well and we were able to adjust for the second morning class to better teach them. At night however was a different story. The night time classes were a lot tougher because we were informed that the students were a bit better at English but once we started teaching, it soon became clear that it wasn’t the case. It was definitely rough because there were around 40 students and only half the class would understand the vocab/questions we were teaching/asking. Luckily we were able to stay composed and finished with no causalities.
On the bright side though, throughout the day our team had a lot of opportunities to spend time with the students. We were able to meet kids during their breaks, in between classes, at lunch, and after school. Some of our team members, who are gifted in the art of speaking Chinese, were able to meet with several different groups of students because they were able to connect with the kids through speaking Mandarin. Thomas and I were able to bond with students by playing basketball but only for a short period of time because these kids are use to the heat and Thomas and I were melting out there. We met with so many different kids and we hope to continue to bond with these students so that God’s love may shine through us.
Prayer Requests:
1. Pray for energy. Teaching day and night classes can be very draining. We sometimes start at 8AM and can end at 9:30PM.
2. Pray for health. Many of us are getting lots of mosquito bites so pray that we don’t get sick.
3. Pray that God would plant seeds as we continue to meet and bond with students.
It’s time to call it a night, so Saw Wah Dee Kap!
