Thailand Missions (2016) "Battle Scars"

Today we held our Happy Camp at Phami Church.  It was going to be a super packed 5 hour event.  We started the day off with the kids with some stretching.  Uncle Thomas led everyone through a series of stretch to prepare our bodies for the fun ahead.  After stretching, we led the kids in some singing.  First, we started with the song “Making Melodies.”  The kids definitely had smiles on their faces when they saw us dancing to the song and seeing how silly we were.  Next, we taught them “Jesus Is A Friend.”  All the kids went crazy when we had them shake a friends’ hand, squeeze a friends’ knee, scratch a friends’ back and give a friend a hug.  They definitely enjoyed that song.  After that, we taught them the hand motions to “Swing Low” and we had some kids come up to sing and do hand motions with us.  As we finished with songs with the kids, we transitioned into body worship.  The team performed “Unchanging” and afterwards, Milky (the pastor’s wife of Phami) made some of the kids perform for us.  She made them perform the chicken dance.  We soon all joined in and everyone was just laughing and having a good time.

After our morning assembly, we moved into a time of crafts.  Ashley led the older kids in making hemp bracelets while Kristy & Rochelle led the younger kids in making harmonicas.  It was definitely a rough start for the bracelet making because a lot of kids had trouble starting them but once we helped all of them, they were able to make their own bracelets.  One crafts were finished we transitioned to a time of games.  We split all the kids into six different teams and had three different stations for teams to compete at.  Station 1 was a bean bag toss/throw at bottles.  Station 2 was a chopstick grabbing relay and Station 3 was a ping pong ball in water bowl game.  Two teams would compete at each station for 20 minutes trying to rack up as many points as possible.  We only had time for two rounds of stations before it was lunch time so we planned to continue after lunch.  For lunch, Phami provided noodles for everyone to eat.  It was pretty spicy but definitely very good.

Once lunch was done, we had the kids split into their teams again and we lead another craft.  We made popsicle stick catapults and then gave them temporary tattoos for them to wear.  After the craft we resumed the station games for another 20 mins.  Once the last game station was finished we all gathered together again and led all the kids in dancing.  We danced to the “Cha Cha Slide.”  All the kids had a blast watching/dancing with us.  We danced to the song twice before going into our last activity.

Our last activity for the Happy Camp was Elefunata!  This is our elephant looking piñata that we make for the kids.  We had all the kids line up from youngest to oldest before letting them take a swing at the piñata.  It definitely took longer than expect because this elephant piñata would not go down.  A bunch of a kids had to leave before the piñata was broken but we saved some candy for them because they were coming back for night classes.  We all had a chance to hit the piñata after all the kids went and we let the pastor and his wife finish off the piñata.  Once the piñata broke, all the kids rushed in to grab the candy and feast on their prizes.  We were definitely exhausted after it all but it was well worth it seeing all the smiles it brought to the kids.

After Happy Camp was over, we had about an hour of downtime and then it was dinner.  After dinner it was right back to teaching classes for the kids.  Today was definitely an eventful day and I’m glad that so many kids came out to our camp.  As for our team, here are some prayer requests that you can pray for:

1. Pray for energy because we are in the home stretch and we are definitely feeling exhausted.  Pray that we would continue to give it our all in everything we do.
2. Pray that we would be able to be an encouragement the people at Phami Church.
3. Pray for our bodies as the mosquitos are eating us all alive!

Thanks for all your support!
