WLS+AZ Missions Profile: Spencer Sun
Why did you decide to come on this missions trip?
Last July in Arizona with HSMT, God laid a couple wild but practical ideas upon my bleeding heart: (1) a missions trip longer than 1 week for our Arizona collegians; (2) an opportunity to tap into and partner with the Navajo young adults who usually attend Byron's young adult class during VBS. After running this idea by other Arizona leaders and Faith Jelle, our contact missionary on the Navajo reservation, I had resolved to pass this trip onto our beloved college minister because I had other HSMT responsibilities, but alas he threw it back in my face and challenged me to go. After thinking about it and seeing how God was affirming and providing for me logistically and forming this team, lo and behold, I find myself reflectively blogging in the airport waiting for my delayed flight to Missouri.
What are you most fearful about?
I'm nervous about not being able to connect with the Native Americans since I am different culturally and athletically. I am scared of the unknown, not knowing what to expect and how to relate. However, thank God brought a few of the Navajo out to LA last week, and meeting with them pacified many of my anxieties. God also reminded me yesterday how He has blessed me with such a diverse group of foster sons, kiddos and mentees, and all that He asks of me is obedience and a willing heart.
How can we pray for you?
How can we pray for you?
Pray that I will have the sensitivity to hear the Spirit, the flexibility to be uncomfortable and adjust accordingly, the faith and humility to obey the Spirit, the wisdom to train and coordinate (collegians, Navajo and HSMTers) the teens class, the energy and fervor of a 21-year old, good sleep, enough clean underwear, and no gout attacks.
