Flight Report for 12.31.2013

Happy New Year!!!
Can you believe this 2013 has come and gone?! I hope you each had a great year, filled with God's goodness through personal spiritual growth, ministering to others, and being encouraged and strengthened by loved ones. May 2014 ring in a deeper intimacy with God, new challenges that increases your reliance upon him, shape you toward the Lord Jesus Christ, and a year marked with on-going grace, mercy and generosity. Happy New Year! —John

Flight Retreat! "Wholly Committed"
Thank you, Danny Su and your team of servants! Thank you, people who were praying for retreat! And thank you, those who attended, for attending! It was a really blessed time. God was present and the Holy Spirit dwelt amongst us!

The scheduled was packed—I mean PACKED—with meaningful times of prayer, sharing, prayer, bonding, prayer, games, prayer, worship, prayer and encouragement. We managed to squeeze in a bit of free time. The three messages and subsequent small group sharing centered on the commitment to the Lordship of Christ, commitment to the church and commitment to each other.

Here is the challenge from my last address:
ONE: Do 1 thing differently that will contribute to your own spiritual growth. Here are some examples:
-Sit in a new seat each Sunday at worship. The power of one degree!
-Bring an actual Bible to Passage (and a notebook and pen).
-Create a prayer regimen.

TWO: Do 2 things to bless the church. Examples...
-Join the Sunday prayer ministry (Contact Thelma Tong)
-Pray with and for the church at ESPM
-Serve in some capacity, in big or small ways, in front of people or behind the scenes.

THREE: In the coming year, commit to 3 people. Examples...
-Meet regularly or periodically with a person who needs accountability or mentoring or discipleship.
-Pull the people from the balcony of the Worship Center to worship with you downstairs.
-Love the Fringers. You know who they are.
-Pursue with persistence and grace the Lost Sheep.

You can do it. Do it for yourself. Do it for others.

My Year in Review
By John Chow.
This past year went by very quickly. For me, it was full yet extraordinarily blessed. God was very good as always. Here's a quick rundown of personal highlights:
-In January, some FCBCers attended the Urbana Conference and caught the mission bug. I was thoroughly excited for them as I saw the fruit of this later in the year.
-In February and March, I went to Mexico with other FCBCers to build houses with Amor Ministries. ¡Muy Bien!
-In April, I traveled with friends to Orlando to attend The Gospel Coalition's Conference (and Universal Orlando!). It was a refreshing MAN-cation being with brothers in Christ and hearing great preaching!
-In May, I was voted in by church to be the Young Adult Pastor.
-In June, I was ordained as a servant of God to the gospel ministry. Wow! A few days later, I was joining our Thailand Team on mission to Chiang Rai, Thailand.
-In August, I officiated my first wedding (of Matt & Leticia Ku). Wow! Later that month, the collegians and young adults had their annual camp at Pepperdine University.
-In September, Doris and I celebrated our 20th year of marriage. Wow! To commemorate the anniversary, we're attempting to travel to 20 different cities, both domestically and internationally, by Sept 2014. We've titled it "20for20". Crazy. (To date, we've completed 9/20)
-In October, while still being part of Annex, I joined one of the YA Connection Groups for its six-week meeting. It was a great introduction to YA Ministries!
-In December, to close the year off, I had a blessed, blessed(!) weekend with the collegians at Flight Retreat. As the speaker, I was able to share my heart with these siblings in Christ as it was likely my last official retreat in the college department.

In 2013, God was still refining me in my personal character issues. God was purging from me impatience, lusting, judgments of others, independence, and jealousies (to name a few). I thank God for his grace, the power of Christ's resurrection, and the working of the Holy spirit. O Magnify the Lord! Happy New Year!
