Flight Report: 1.25.2013

Weekly Prayer for Summer Missions!
Worship Center, 2nd Floor Elevator Area, 11:40am-12:00n. Every Sunday through February. Although we have a history of going to Thailand each summer, we still want to seek God's direction. He may confirm a return or redirect somewhere else. Join us for prayer. You do not need to commit to this trip to pray for it. God may also be leading you to join a mission organization this summer. We'll pray for that also.

An Exciting Time of Prayer. ESPM!
English Speaking Prayer Meeting. Wednesdays, 7:30pm, Life Center, rm 205-206. The last few meetings have been moving as we learned of church revivals stemming from prayer and originating from the Holy Spirit. Come and join the church as we seek for the manifest presence of God.

Annex Winter Schedule
Check out the sidebar for when Annex is coming to your school. Sorry that we can't cover every school. If your school is not listed, please join us at Commuters on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month. Inquire with Flight for time and location.

House-building with Amor Ministries
Trip 2: Mar 23-26, Sat-Tue. Give the gift of a new home to a family in need. Our first trip in February is closed. We have a whopping 25 people going! Praise God! You can still get in on the action by going in March. Sign-up here, and sign up soon: Amor/March2013. More details at FCBC/FAQs and Amor.org

Two Messages from John
To apply Flight's theme this year (which is "Engage"), the following goals have been set for all collegians and adult staff. It's my hope that before this year—at the very least before the end of your college careers—that these goals are met. We'll work together on them:

Goal 1: Have prepared a concise and articulate response to "Why is Jesus significant in my life?" Why this goal? Your answer explains why you believe in Jesus Christ and the value he holds in your life. You should be "ready in season and out of season" to share of the most important person in your life, the person you want others to know.

Goal 2: Confidently know the gospel message through the 5P's outline, and how to lead someone to Christ using the ABCCs. Forgot the 5P's and ABC's? Be reminded here: 5P's & ABC's

Goal 3: Actively participate in one evangelistically-based event or mission. To do as Christ calls us to do (Matt 28:19-20), engage in a setting that stretches your faith and puts you in a place that has you talking about the good news of Jesus Christ. These settings are specific where evangelism is the nature of the event. Not service. Not camp. What are qualified events: a) counselor in Vacation Bible School (VBS), b) be part of the various elementary school Good News Clubs church supports, c) join a mission trip this summer (FCBC or mission organization, like OMF, JEMs, Cru, etc), d) direct-evangelism events sponsored by an on-campus ministry. [If you've read this far, you've done pretty well. Be the 10th person to email Flight, and receive an In-n-Out gift card. Subject line: I'm Reading This! One entry per person please.]

Goal 4: During the summer, when you are out of school, attend ESPM (church prayer) regularly. Admit it, your summers are free. Give 3 hours each week to pray.

My second message...As most of you have heard from Pastor Benny's Jan 13 announcement in worship, we have staffing changes and propositions here at church. In the Feb 10 church members' meeting, there will be a motion to call Pastor Chris Tomokiyo as the English Adult Minister. If the Lord leads, I will become the Young Adult Minister, vacating the College Minister position. It appears likely Chris will be accepted into the position. Keep praying.
As for me, nothing is set and nothing is inevitable. There is still a screening process which includes an application, "interviews" with a search committee, a Q&A session, and a final vote by church members. As collegians (and future young adults) you have an opportunity to participate in the process. The most important thing is PRAYER. Join with me to pray for God's confirmation. (I'll share my thoughts on moving to YA in a different setting, but for now, pray.) You also may provide comments and feedback to the YA search committee that is being formed, and attend the open sessions to communicate whatever you want. As current collegians, you'll have to think beyond your college years. When you are done with undergrad, you'll be entering into the YA ministry. Although this process is lengthy, we trust that God will even use it to establish his will.
For Flight, we'd seek a new candidate to fill this college ministry position. (I wonder if the name "Flight" will be kept.)
