Flight Report, 05.02.2012

Big Sunday Weekend. Make a difference in our Chinatown community.
It's not too late to sign up! Check out the offerings: Big Sunday. You can also take part in a Sunday yard sale where proceeds go toward the Alpine Rec Center. Bring lightly used/good condition/new items to donate (Clothing, books, school supplies, kitchenware, sports equipment, backpacks/bags). You can deposit items at church 5-8pm daily.

Worship3
Beginning Sept 2012 (the new church year), FCBC will switch its Sundays to 3 sessions. Although this is not unheard of it is still significant, and it involves some changes to our Sunday programs and activities (We operated under three sessions 10+ years ago). Here's a very simple description:

Why the switch? In September 2012, the Hall of Truth will be totally remodeled (Say goodbye to green carpet and room dividers!), leaving the Mandarin worshipers without a place to worship. After much research and exhausting numerous configurations, it is not possible to accommodate all Sunday worship services and classes within two sessions. Thus, three sessions is the option. Six months into this new arrangement, an evaluation will be conducted to determine if we want to continue three sessions after the Hall of Truth is completed.
What impact does it have on collegians and Passage? Well, Passage and worship will be earlier. Yes, earlier. (You can do it—Passage is only 15-minutes earlier.) English Worship begins at 10:15am, and it is 75-minutes.
If this news comes as a surprise to you, it actually is old news. This three session announcement was disclosed in the February 2012 Members' Mtg. (Ahh, a reason members should go to Church Members' Mtg.)

Next Church Members' Meeting: Sunday, May 20
The meeting begins at 1pm (Worship Ctr) for all church members. Lunch is available for those who sign up in the H/Truth hallway. On the agenda is voting in new members, amongst them will be Enoch Cheung, Allen Huang, Amy Kwong, and Daniel Li.

Mother's Day Worship@11
The tradition of pinning a corsage onto mom during the worship is returning this year to Worship@11. If your mother attends the 11am service, prepare to obtain a corsage for mom and attach it to her during the worship service. [This also applies to the 9am Cantonese worship service.]

Me...Pastor? Missionary?
On April 22, Benny gave a message on one's leading into full-time ministry. I'm sure some people checked-out from the topic but I trust that the topic resonated with a few of you. Some of you may be enthusiastic and directed toward work outside of ministry—and that's great! (We should not believe that church ministry or mission work is the pinnacle of all careers, and all other work is less significant or meaningful. God calls each of us into different fields.) There are some of you, however, who get a great sense of satisfaction and enjoyment from leading in a church setting, teaching Scripture, sharing your faith and/or serving people. You may have experienced the satisfaction and enjoyment in HSMT, Hi Koi, on-campus ministries or going on mission. This may be indicative of God's leading. (click here to finish "Me...Pastor? Missionary?")
