Lift Off! New Year (2016) - Day 01

Day 01: The Truth

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17

Pray that the theme of The Truth would sink into the hearts and minds of every Flight college student this year. Pray that in every opportunity for ministry that we first seek God's Word in understanding and obedience. Pray that we uphold and respect it for life's answers and God's direction for each one of us. And pray that we spend adequate time reading, listening, and even re-reading this truth God has given to us.

Lift Off! New Year (2016) - Day 02

Day 02: Seniors!

James 1:2-8
Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

Pray that we actively ask God to use us our last year on our respective campuses. Pray that we support our underclassmen brothas and sistas. Pray with trust and obedience: that the Lord will guide us towards the future he wants us to have.

Lift Off! New Year (2016) - Day 03

Day 03: Juniors!

1. Pray that we would be seeking God and His perfect plan for us rather than pursuing our own faulty desires and dreams (But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33)

2. Pray that we would be imitators of God and that we would be transformed by the gospel daily. (Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma. Ephesians 5:1-2)

3. Pray that in all circumstances, we would be able to give all glory and praise to God (Not to us, O Lord, not to us, But to Your name give glory Because of Your lovingkindness, because of Your truth. Psalm 115:1)

Lift Off! New Year (2016) - Day 04

Day 04: Sophomores!

Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 11:28-29

Pray that we would be able to trust and rely on each other for both spiritual and emotional support. Pray that we would make an effort to reach out/keep in touch with each other throughout the school year so we could keep each other accountable. Pray that we would be ready with open hearts to accept what God has in store for us this year.

Lift Off! New Year (2016) - Day 05

Day 05 - Freshmen!
We have 36 students in our incoming class this year! All are staying in California for school with 9 in NorCal.

Isaiah 43:18-19 (ESV)
Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old.
Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

Pray for all the 'new' things: classes, environment, friends, living situation, community, etc. Pray that these students would adjust smoothly and not be overwhelmed--taking in all that college has to offer with wise discernment. Pray that they would balance both their new-found independence and much needed dependence that will stimulate their faith. "Pray also that in light of this year's theme we would be able to grasp a great understanding of The Truth and hold on to it as we experience different challenges." - Charmaine Yiu

Lift Off! New Year (2016) - Day 06

Day 06: Customs
We are directed by Jesus to bring Truth, healing and help to our world. Customs covers the missional aspect of Flight. Customs currently organizes annual projects in the spring and summer and supports collegians partnered with other organizations.

Matthew 9:37-38
Then He [Jesus] said to His disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest."

Pray for our missions wing of Flight to bring the Gospel to those around us and beyond. Praise God that this past year we had over 25 students participate in missions! Pray for continued opportunities for us to spread Truth both locally, on campus, and abroad. Pray for where God may lead us this upcoming summer. Pray for boldness across our students to bring God's Word to anyone who we may come across wherever we may go.

Lastly, pray about attending a missions conference on February 3-4 in Long Beach! That this conference would challenge and shape our efforts for God's kingdom to be expanded. (Half prayer, half announcement!) [http://sendconference.com/socal/  |  Let us know if you're interested!]

Lift Off! New Year (2016) - Day 07

Day 07: Commuters
Similar to the evening gathering of Annex, Commuters gathers the students at local colleges for dinner and fun.

Phillipians 3:13-14
Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Pray for our bi-monthly gatherings to be fruitful and bring unity amongst our students locally. That they would feel a sense of community despite being at various schools. Pray for clear direction both academically and spiritually for these students. Pray that they find confidence in their identity in Christ rather than a prestigious school. And pray that their direction would be based on God's will rather than other influences of the world.

Lift Off! New Year (2016) - Day 08

Day 08: Annex
"We come to you." Annex brings the church to university campuses. A small group of individuals visits universities and brings concern, encouragement and prayer. The small group meets 1-on-1 with students then gathers everyone together for a meal and fun. For those who don't visit home often, the visits keep the students connected with the church.

Acts 2:46-47
Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.

As the largest aspect of Flight Ministry, please pray for effective use for God's purposes. Pray that this ministry would be a place where our students find a small connection to our church even while away. Pray that the 1-on-1 times this upcoming year would be fruitful to bring spiritual growth and build relationships. Pray that students would enjoy the time shared together in the evenings--eating, laughing, and praying. Pray that this would also be an opportunity to reach out to friends, classmates, and roommates outside of our FCBC circle to be encouraged.

Lift Off! New Year (2016) - Day 09

Day 09: HUB
HUB is where collegians gather to check-in and catch-up. Since many collegians are dispersed to various schools, HUB gathers students together to reconnect through outings and events. It's a large group time that meets at various times throughout the year on significant days (such as holiday weekends). HUB also captures the annual Winter Retreat held between Christmas and New Year's.

Philippians 2:1-2
Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.

Pray that as a ministry, we would be able to leverage HUB to be a place that will not only gather students for fellowship, but for true reconnection. Pray that we would create an environment where students are comfortable, encouraged, supported, and strengthened. Pray that students would utilize these large gatherings to intentionally meet with their peers and meet new people. May we use these times as opportunities to spiritually shape each other.

Lift Off! New Year (2016) - Day 10

Day 10: Passage
Traditionally known as Sunday School, Passage is the weekly gathering on Sunday mornings to examine and discover truths and application from the Bible.

Pray for this area of Flight ministry that dives into Scripture deeply every Sunday. Pray that students would have minds and hearts ready to hear, study, and discuss the Truth (see Flight theme!) of God's Word. Pray that our teachers (Kevin Chan, Ernie Lew, Carl Sujo, Danny Orh, Darren Lo) and aides (Charissa Lue, Josh Yuan, and Spencer Sun,) would teach and facilitate through the Holy Spirit. That the staff would have the time and energy to prepare each lesson and know how best connect with the students in attendance.
