2019 Thailand Missions - Falling For the Falls

Hello friends! I can't believe it's already been a full week here in Chiang Mai with its amazing street meats, coffee, and greenery.

This past Saturday, the team had a chance to explore some of God's creation by climbing waterfalls at Bua Thong Waterfalls (Nam Phu Chet Si)! We were led by the fearless Elisabeth (our tour guide extraordinaire and staff member at The Centre) in the morning to first grab some breakfast and lunch in a local, open market. Oh my goodness. The bustling market carried everything from fresh fruits, to whole fried fish with a portion dedicated to just curries and amok (Google it). Thai cuisine is so diverse and vibrant, reflecting the Thai people's bright personalities so well. Once we chose our sustenance (I bought spring rolls, chicken skewers, fish amok, and sticky rice), we drove an hour to the falls. It was such a sweet time of fellowship where we could encourage, fall, and laugh (in that order) with each other. It gave us a chance to rest from the work during the week and absorb the beauty of Chiang Mai!

Please enjoy this video of us struggling.

After we returned from the waterfall, the team split into 2 groups, each with one staff member from The Centre. Darren and I went with Daniel to see how he spent time when he wasn't at The Centre, much of it consisting of conversing with Thai locals through online games and basketball. It's amazing to hear that he's able to invite people out to The Centre activities or classes through these interactions, and it goes to show how much God can do with so little. Darren and I were able to share dinner with him afterwards and hear about some of his struggles, worries, and triumphs during his time in Chiang Mai. The girls (Alisa Joy Wong, Nikki, Melody, and Whitney) spent the rest of the day with Michelle, Jiyoung, and Elisabeth. These girls of Elisabeth's house church take a once-a-month girls' day break, and our team was able to join them. They got Thai massages for 2 hours -_- (my jealous face)

Personally, I love the times we are able to spend with the staff. In addition to us encouraging and praying for them in their work, they teach us how to live completely for the Gospel, even flying across the country to follow the Spirit's prompting. I've been so encouraged by how they trust the future of The Centre, their house church, and their own lives to the Lord, knowing that His will will ultimately be done.

We appreciate all the support we've received from friends and family back home, and as we're beginning our last full week here, we would love for continued partnership on the trip in prayer.

Prayer Requests
1. Pray that we would maximize our time left at the Centre with interactions with students and staff.
2. Pray over our preparations for the July 4th event that we are hosting in 2 days. There is a little more to finalize with the event, and we need to be flexible with what happens.
3. Pray for boldness in the Gospel as our team is made of shyer people. Would we be able to die to ourselves, knowing that it is Christ working through us.
