Lift Off! 40 Days of Sacrifice - Day 22

Day 22: Lament

Psalm 146:9
The Lord protects the strangers;
He supports the fatherless and the widow,
But He thwarts the way of the wicked.

The civil war has forced 11 million people—half the country’s pre-crisis population—to flee their homes. About 7.6 million Syrians have been internally displaced within the country, and 4 million have fled Syria for other countries. The result is one of the largest forced migrations since World War II. (tgc.org)

Statistics and information like the above--and the ones we've read this past week and half have seem to only exacerbate the situation in Syria. From displaced families, to millions of children, the effects of terrorism, murder, rape, and being taken advantage of, as well as devastation from many outside sources; we may think, 'what good is it to even pray?' Where can we even begin to help such a time of injustice and turmoil?

Today, we encourage you to simply pray in lament. Consider the afflictions and difficulties plaguing the refugee crisis--especially in Syria. Think about all the things that have been discussed in the previous days and reflect on these facts. Take a moment to simply process and begin to understand that these injustices exist. While we cannot fix everything in the moment, we believe in a God who can, so pray--cry out if necessary. Put your trust in God's plan, sovereignty, and hope--not only for the people in crisis, but in your own life as well. Know that God also has a plan for you to move and bring you to a place of redemption and salvation. Then thank God for this beautiful plan and have joy in your salvation--look for opportunities like to seek joy and beauty that God allows in the midst of difficulty. He is at work in your life and in the lives of those displaced.
