Lift Off! 40 Days of Sacrifice - Day 20
Day 20: A Response
Jeremiah 22:3
Thus says the Lord, "Do justice and righteousness, and deliver the one who has been robbed from the power of his oppressor. Also do not mistreat or do violence to the stranger, the orphan, or the widow; and do not shed innocent blood in this place.
Over the next 10 days, we will be praying in response to the refugee crisis. To see this as an opportunity to pray, give, and trust in a God who sees and knows the suffering of people in this situation. But let us also consider how we might respond in challenging ways. To be fervent in prayer, generous in giving, and relying on God's sufficiency in His people over all.
------------------------------
The scope of today’s refugee crisis is truly unprecedented, affecting nearly 60 million people. Never before have so many been displaced, put in danger, and forced from their homes. In Syria alone, more than half of 22 million people have either been displaced or killed. More than 4 million have fled to neighboring countries. I share these numbers to remind us of the sheer enormity of this crisis.
Much of our response to the refugee crisis seems to come from a foundation of fear, not faith. Much of it seems to flow from a view of the world that is far more American than biblical, far more concerned with the preservation of our country than the accomplishment of the Great Commission.
-David Platt
Let's open this section of prayer by hoping in God's salvation for His people--but also for people in great desperation, such as refugees. In their great search for a home, may they find a place of comfort, peace, and hope in the God of salvation. May we be ready, willing, and open to how God may call us to the great commission, whether to work with people of great need, or to our neighbors right next door.
