WLS+AZ Missions (2016) - Day 13
Hey everybody,
We have definitely seen God working these past two weeks. At the beginning of our WLS trip, the Navajo were talking about not wanting to attend VBS. Now, at the end of VBS, one of the Navajos that initially said she was not coming shared her testimony in front of the whole teens class. She explained how she is fighting for her faith despite adversity from tradition and family. Another Navajo even participated in leading worship with Katrina.
Despite seeing God working in all these things, I’m honestly pretty disappointed. At the beginning of the week, not many teen boys showed up. Things started looking up as the attendance for the guys swelled in the middle of the week. But yesterday, the last day, the guys in my small group didn’t come. I know God is present and working, but I am still struggling with why God did this.
During praise night, one of the high schoolers thanked God for using us despite our weakness. This resonated with me as I recognize that I lack faith. After some reflection, God showed me that He not only uses us, but He strengthens us while doing it. He knows my faith is weak, so He is building it through this trial. God is good.
Yesterday and today, counselors have been stressing that this mission goes beyond the week on the reservation; it includes the 51 other weeks of the year. Please pray that we would be building and maintaining the relationships with the Navajos that budded this week despite the distractions and busyness that come with returning home. Please also pray for the cliche but much needed traveling mercy as we are heading home tomorrow.
