WLS+AZ Missions 2016 - Day 3
We've made it to Missouri and to WLS! Just to give you guys an idea of what it's like here. The weather is hot and humid so we're constantly sweating and sticky. There's a ton of people here from all parts of the country and from many different tribes. We've been meeting a lot of new people and striking up conversations as we wait in line for food or wait for sessions to start. As a team we are split up among the cabins of the Navajos that came out from Hardrock, AZ acting as their counselors. We have been trying to immerse ourselves into the routine of the Navajos and being intentional with the time that we spend with them whether that's just walking to worship or during small group times. In the past day and a half we've been here we have been going to worship sessions, messages, workshops and learning more about the Native American culture through these things. Knowing more of their culture helps us to better serve them and understand them. We've been learning in a very real context the weight of the struggles that Native Americans go through and how desperately they need the hope of Jesus.
One of my highlights from the past couple of days was that Hiram, Ernest, and I got to play in the 3 on 3 tournament during free time. It was a good time playing ball and getting to meet more natives through basketball. It seems like all Natives play ball but we ended up getting 3rd place. Woohoo!
There are a few things that our team has been struggling with and could use prayer. First, collectively, we have been pretty tired throughout the whole day so prayer for more energy, alertness, and strength. Secondly, our team is still trying to figure out how to navigate through the conference and in interacting with the Navajos. For example, knowing how much to intervene with their friend groups or when to let them do their own thing. The trip has been good so far! We're excited for what else is in store and for more relationships to be made and deepened. Thanks for your prayers and stay tuned for more!
