Lift Off! Winter for World Missions - Day 10
Since its beginning, IMB has had one goal — bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost peoples of the world. At the first Southern Baptist Convention in 1845, the Foreign Mission Board (FMB) was founded as part of “one sacred effort, for the propagation of the Gospel.” Southern Baptist churches believed that by working cooperatively, they could accomplish more for God’s kingdom. That belief still stands strong today.
IMB has shifted focus from geographic countries to people groups, with a concerted effort to start church-planting movements among unreached peoples. Technological advances have provided unprecedented opportunities for missionaries to spread the Gospel, and Southern Baptists have reached into areas previously considered forbidden by political barriers.
“Not only do I believe in the role of institutions in sustaining a movement, I believe in this institution sustaining a movement of local churches planting churches around the world,” says IMB President David Platt.
PRAYER POINTS
» For IMB's director, David Platt--he recently came into leadership and needs prayer for wisdom, discernment, and God's guidance. The position is not an easy one and past president's have made great impacts in global missions--pray that David would seek God's counsel to lead IMB for the next generation of missionaries.
» For entity of IMB that those who work at the office(s) or in the field, they would capture God's vision for missions as a united entity. Pray for God's work to be done throughout the many aspects of this organization and that those they influence (churches and individuals) would also seek and act upon God's work.
