A. What is the Church?
- The Church is the body of believers; the body carries out God's will (1 Corinthians 12:12 )
- The Church is about the people, not the physical institution (Colossians 1:9-10, Colossians 4:15)
B. What does the Church do? (Acts 2:42)
1. Teaching
- Teach each other Christ's commandments. Observe and closely follow what we read to teach Jesus's commandments. Be saturated with the Word of Christ (Matthew 28;20, Colossians 3:16)
- For edification. Help build others up in faith (1 Corinthians 14:26)
2. Fellowship
- Sharing and sacrificing with each other (Hebrews 13:16, Romans 12:13)
- Accountability and Confession (James 5:16)
- Contributing to each other's needs. Love and honor each other. (Romans 12:10-13
- Encourage godliness (Romans 1:12, 1 Thessalonians 5:11)
3. Breaking Bread
- Remembrance of Christ and His sacrifice (Luke 22:19)
- It is not an ordinary meal, but a special time for contemplation (1 Corinthians 11:33-34)
4. Prayer
- Prayer for the sick and for those in need (James 5:14)
- Prayer for deliverance from the hard times (2 Corinthians 1:11)
- Prayer for growth and edification of others (Colossians 1:9-10)
- Prayer in thanksgiving (Colossians 4:2)
5. Evangelism
- All members of a church are called to evangelize (Acts 1:8, 1 Thessalonians 1:6-10)
- Some members of a church are sent out to evangelize (Acts 13:2-3)
