Lift Off! Easter - Day 07
Day 07: Monday
Reading: Isaiah 56:1-7; Mark 11:12-19
On this day, Jesus and His disciples passed a fig tree on their way to the temple. Jesus looked for fruit on the tree but found none. So Jesus spoke to the tree and said, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again!” When they arrived at the temple, they saw a flurry of activity. The crowds were buying and selling, engaging in everything but spiritual activity. No one offered prayer, no one was being ministered to or encouraged. The place was barren of any spiritual fruit. In anger, Jesus put a halt to what was going on, overturning the tables and reminding the people that the temple was to be a “house of prayer.”
- Prayer is powerful and essential to a vibrant spiritual life. In Isaiah 56:7, the Lord says, “My house will be called a house of prayer for all the peoples.” Is prayer a priority in your life? What do you need to do make time to commune with God?
- Jesus cursed the fig tree for not bearing fruit. And when He got to the temple, Jesus was angered because no one was engaging in any fruitful spiritual activity. Are you living a fruitful spiritual life? What are you doing to advance the Kingdom of God? Are you intentional in being a blessing to others?
