Operation Christmas Child (OCC) 2014

(written by Sherry Chan)

Hello there! :)
Although the weather does not quite suggest it, the holiday season is right around the corner! I know many of us (collegians) are caught in the waves of midterms and deadlines, and we anxiously await winter break for the next big break (breathe, people!), while others of us have just concluded summer break. Nonetheless, Christmas is forthcoming, and the love of Christ trumps all things (i.e. busyness, laziness, indifference).

Collection:
WHO: You
WHAT: Collection of items/gifts for OCC shoeboxes, shoeboxes needed as well
HOW: Bring items* to contribute to the boxes!
FOR WHOM: Children all around the world -- OCC delivers shoeboxes to over 100 countries each year!
WHY: A small shoebox can have a big impact. What goes into the box is fun, but what comes out of it is eternal. Be a part of changing children's lives all over the world in Jesus' Name through the power of a simple gift with Operation Christmas Child.**
WHEN: Throughout the next few Sundays
WHERE: @ Passage (Sunday School)!

Packing Party:
Aside from bringing gifts, I invite you to come pack the boxes! Refreshments will be provided.
Most importantly, we will be PRAYING for the children who will be receiving the boxes - pray that they'd see these gifts as acts of God's love and provision and that they'd know the Gospel through being a recipient of OCC (which has a discipleship program for them).
Details on the packing party TBA.

For now:

  1. Check out: http://www.samaritanspurse.org/what-we-do/operation-christmas-child/ for more details.
  2. Shop around a store for items to contribute while you're there anyway or look around your house for things in good condition that a child might love to have!
  3. Gather your empty shoeboxes & please donate them!
  4. Start bringing these items to Sunday School (or arrange an alternative way to get these items to me)!
  5. See who else is getting involved--join the Facebook event.

“Want to keep Christ in Christmas? Feed the hungry, clothe the naked, forgive the guilty, welcome the unwanted, care for the ill, love your enemies, and do unto others as you would have done unto you.”

*Suggested Items:
Toys, Non-Liquid Hygiene Items, School Supplies, Accessories
