Arizona Missions (HSMT) Update!
Greetings from Arizona! I'd like to introduce a guest blogger, Sherry Chan(!) who will post an update on our missions trip in Arizona with High School Missionary Team (HSMT).
Answered prayers. Time and again a missions trip proves the
power of prayer, God's faithfulness and strength in our needs and weaknesses. So
much as happened each day, and the weather is already exclaiming God’s response
to prayers and the beauty of His creation.
Sunshine-rain-lighting-sandstorm-clouds. Just as we had prayed for and continue
to pray for, each day has begun beautifully with sunshine so the kids could
arrive as bright and cheerful as the sun feels. At some point in the afternoon,
the rain and wind pick up. And while it may cause a few difficulties for us
(i.e. tents get wet and dusty on the inside, and I imagine food is a bit
tougher to serve in such conditions), we resolve in prayer and strength. 1
Thessalonians 5:16-18, verses that have helped me in this past semester at
school, has come up once again. Kevin shared this with us as an encouragement:
“Rejoice always, prayer without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances, for
this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” And so it goes.
Beautiful things at VBS:
- Two of the Navajos, Christian and Destiny, joined the worship team in our teens class, helping out by playing guitar and singing. They’re so talented!
- I’ve personally gotten to know 3 Navajo high school girls well through counseling. Two are still growing in their faith, and one has yet to know the Lord. She has come to many VBS’s but doesn’t believe. She’s not the only in this circumstance. Another girl in my small group has accepted Christ—praise the Lord!
- As a collegian, I didn’t quite get to know many of the high schoolers in HSMT before coming to Arizona. Now that we’re here, conversations with new friends are abundant (although I’m still struggling with some names). Hooray team unity!
- Navajo teens engaging and enjoying their crafts.
- Joyful children singing about Jesus.
- Navajo teens playing football with HSMTers.
- Seeing God work in the lives of the Navajos.
Prayer Requests:
- Pray that we would all be in good health! We have had cases of nosebleeds, headaches, and being on the brink of dehydration.
- Pray for the lessons/messages for the last 2 days of VBS, that we’d ask thought-provoking questions to challenge the kids.
- Pray for the salvation of and counseling times with the teens.
- Pray for boldness of our team, that we’d be confident and unashamed of the gospel.
Thank you, and I hope everything back in Los Angeles is
going well!
